Funky Function Art Created from Junk

This site features the folk art and tramp art created by myself, a self taught artist.
I reside on the West Coast of British Columbia in Canada. The early settlers on the Canadian Prairies that included Ukrainians, Doukhobors, and Hutterites have influenced my art.
So far from home, in a vast New World, these settlers faced the challenge of re creating their traditions simply by innovation.
Old window frames became mirrors, wooden drawers became wall cabinets. A plain piece of furniture became a work of art by using the simple creation of paint and design.
My art utilizes this technique. Discarded wooden structures found at flea markets, country auctions and wherever my travels may take me, are re designed, brightly painted and finished with a crackled aged effect.
Motifs may vary; pinwheels, hearts and flowers are most common. Carved animals, birds, leaves, berries and twisted twigs often find their way into many of my projects.
The history, traditions and lifestyles of these early settlers have had a strong influence on my art. By re creating this era, I hope to encourage and intrigue others to explore this fascinating part of Canadian history through its' art.
